The community of Esperanza (Spanish for Hope) is located on the west coast of Vancouver Island and is accessible only by boat or airplane.
Esperanza is a self-contained community with a full-time staff of more than 18 individuals.
Historically Esperanza (Kleq-muc-suu) was used as a stopover place for Nuu-cha-nulth people resting from their canoe travels.
In 1937 Dr. Herman McLean built the first mission hospital on the west coast of Vancouver Island at this location. While the hospital closed in 1974, the community continues in its legacy of healing and rest.
Today Esperanza offers hope, rest and healing to individuals and families facing various crises and sorrows.
